Street Performers July 4th, 2011

Lately I’ve been thinning out my photo library. I’m trying to do it objectively and just get rid of stuff it doesn’t make sense to keep. It feels good to tone down a bit and it’s been a good opportunity to bring some images out of the dark.

My appreciation for street photography has been growing this year. I love the energy out in the city and I’m always surprised at what a wonderful canvas the streets provide.

This was taken on July 4th of this year as I walked around downtown Nashville waiting for the fireworks to start. The fireworks were great and if you haven’t seen the Ken Kesey tribute video I made you can see it here.

Nashville was jumping with people and at the corner of Commerce and 2nd Avenue a dance team had a nice crowd going. They had a car battery with gator clips as a power supply and did some serious moves to the beat.

I snapped several shots of the dancers and the band between the bob and weave of the crowd. This is one of my favorites from the day.
